I just had to post this one image from today’s engagement shoot with Nicole and Sam. It was sunny up until five minutes before the shoot. Then the 20% chance of rain turned into a downpour that progressed into a thunder and lightning storm. We still shot for about an hour until we were soaked and they were freezing. They were troopers! Not sure if much turned out since I could barely see most of the time, but it was an adventure nonetheless!

Puppy Love

A little bit of cuteness….On January 10th I picked-up a stray dog who was starved and frightened. I didn’t want her to get hit by a car and I wanted to have her scanned for a microchip to see if she had a home. Home ended up being with me. Two and a half weeks later she gave birth to seven adorable puppies. They have taken over my life for the past seven weeks and six days. They turn eight weeks old tomorrow. All of the puppies have found lovely homes, including one in mine—Bruno.

Whitney + Elliot Engagement Shoot

On Sunday I got to go to Spartanburg to meet one of my September wedding couples to do their complimentary engagement shoot. Complimentary? Yes, that’s right. All weddings booked during 2012 come with a complimentary engagement shoot! Why? Because I love doing engagement shoots, and I think they are really important. I get to work with the couple for a whole one to two hours and get a chance to see what works for them and what doesn’t, and we have no pressure of family, wedding party and friends standing around making the couple self conscious. We get to look at the photos before the wedding and they can tell me what they like and don’t like, and I can see what works and what doesn’t work. Then the wedding day can be more about them enjoying each other instead of learning how to model. So, this past Sunday I got to work with Whitney and Elliot. They are the first couple I have ever photographed that wanted to go to their office campus for their photo shoot. I thought they were a little crazy, but once I arrived I understood why. The trees! Despite being very windy and downright chilly, we had a really fun shoot. These two were high school and college sweethearts and after six years of love love love, they will tie the knot in September. I can’t wait! Congrats you two!

Kelsie + Sam Engaged: Acts One and Two

On Tuesday I got to meet my June 2, 2012 wedding couple—Kelsie and Sam— for the first time. I love doing engagement shoots and I love shooting in new locations, so meeting them in Greenwood was great. I’d driven near there before, but I’d never walked around the little downtown with all of the old brick buildings. We started there and then moved over to the farm where these two young lovebirds will be married in just a few short months. I love the combo of urban and nature. Originally I broke this up into two posts because I currently have seven orphaned four and a half week old puppies in my life who are slowing down my workflow in a major way. But I have now finished enough images from both parts of our shoot and decided combining them into one post made the most sense. Anyway, Kelsie bid on this vintage dress when she was five years old at a mother-daughter auction. She was separated from her mom and thought the auction was a game so she bid on tons of dresses. She said that she and her mom get so much use out of them still. I loved that story! Anyway, congrats to these two cuties. I can’t wait for the wedding.

Wedding Festivals Bridal Show

Last weekend we had a booth at the TD Convention Center in Greenville, SC for the Wedding Festivals Bridal Show. It was a lot of fun and we met a lot of great brides and grooms and other vendors. We gave away a gift certificate to River Falls Spa in downtown Greenville as a door prize, which was won by a lucky young lady from Greenwood. This was the first time we have ever done a bridal fair, and I don’t know what we were waiting for…maybe just the right time, but I’m glad to have been a part of this one. The event organizers, Marc and Colleen Wheeler do an amazing job! If you are a bride or groom in any stage of the planning process of your wedding I highly recommend you go to one of these festivals. There are several throughout the year in Greenville, Asheville, Charlotte, Anderson and Spartanburg. There are so many amazing vendors with a lot of ideas to inspire you, and great prizes being given away. Here are some iPhone snapshots of our booth.

New Promo Card

I’ve been working hard to get ready for the upcoming Wedding Festivals Bridal Show and Wedding Expo that will be taking place in Greenville on February 4 . Yesterday I designed our promo card. I am so glad to get them off to the printer, so I can stop endlessly moving things around by two pixels. I think we finally have a piece that will speak to the couples we want to work with. At least I hope so. Here it is—frontside and backside. Let me know what you think!

Hello Greenville!

“of Love & Cake” is Greenville’s newest simple and affordable wedding photography solution—with wedding photography options starting at only $950. But just because we’re new to Greenville doesn’t mean we’re new to wedding photography. I—Brenda—have been a professional photographer since 2005, photographing weddings since 2007, and founded “of Love & Cake” in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2008. I juggled shooting adventure travel photography with running “of Love & Cake” as a wedding, event and portrait business for a couple of years before putting things on hold for most of last year.

I grew up in Greenville and returned in early 2011 to care for a family member. I have decided it’s time to relaunch “of Love & Cake” with a new, simplified approach. From my years of experience I know what clients want in wedding photography—simplicity, affordability, professionalism and of course—great photography.
