A little more background...
Professional photographer Brenda Ernst graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California with a BA in Commercial Advertising Photography in early 2007. She moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and worked as a freelance digital tech and assistant mainly in the food photography market, then worked for the travel stock photo agency—Lonely Planet Images, followed by Backroads—the world's #1 active travel company. Brenda is still an active, adventure travel photographer. From the beginning of her photography education she assisted a wedding photographer, then started shooting weddings on her own, eventually founding "of Love & Cake" in 2008. At some point during this time she began writing about herself in the third person and finds it difficult to transition to the first. ;)
"of Love & Cake" began as a photography studio with an extensive menu of services for a beau monde clientele. I—Brenda (here I am in the first person)—put it all on hold in early 2011 to return to Greenville, where I grew up, to care for my grandmother. I am now happy to relaunch "of Love & Cake" in the upstate with a more focused effort to provide affordable wedding photography to really cool people, regardless of their budget (well, with some regard...we need to stay in business!).
We still provide more comprehensive packages with multiple photographers, unlimited hours, bridal portraits and engagement shoots, handcrafted leather albums and online proofing, like we did in San Francisco, but we have refocused to make the most important part—great photography— available to more people. We can't wait to work with you!
A little more about Brenda...
I love being outside. It's kind of why I chose to be a photographer. I had been working as a graphic designer and I felt just too cooped-up behind the desk. Prior to my design days I was a professional whitewater kayaker. I've always loved playing in the woods and in the water. I've always been drawn to old barns and buildings and cameras—most things rustic and weathered—and wandering aimlessly as sunlight streams through trees and cracks. But I also like clean, new things that are well designed. And great technology. I think this is a great time to be alive in this sense. There are so many great creative minds with an aesthetic I adore—combining the old with the new. People are doing an amazing job of this when it comes to wedding design. The technology of blogs has made so many ideas so readily available, too. I've also always been a romantic at heart. Yes, inside of this sporty tom-boy is a girl who loves hearing a good love story and a good love song. All of these things are why I love wedding photography.
